He moved to eastern Illinois in 1868.
He taught school at Iversdale.
He later became a lawyer.
He was a congressman in Washington for 5 years for Central Illinois.
He was awarded Knighthood of St. Gregory in 1935 by Pope Pius XI
He returned to Castleblayney about 1902 to place a stone on his parents grave.
He died in Springfield, Ill. in 1945
James and Katherine are buried in Springfield, Illinois.
